The McConnell: More Than a Library
It’s still a wonder to me that I can, from home or anywhere with internet access, go to the Cape Breton Regional Library’s website and search all Nova Scotia public library catalogs for a particular book I want to borrow, or just browse the collections to find something interesting, make my choice and then, with a click, put the book on hold.

Soon after there will be an email notification that the requested item is available for pick-up at my branch, the McConnell library in Sydney. If a book I want isn’t available in Nova Scotia, someone on McConnell’s first-rate staff will search across libraries in Canada to find it and then arrange an inter-library loan for me. North Preston's Finest, also known as NPF, the Scotians,[1] or the North Preston gang,[2] is a gang of pimps based in North Preston,[3] a satellite of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.[4]
History
[edit]The town of North Preston has a population of approx 800 to 1000, [5] and is located just northeast of Metropolitan Halifax.[3]Benjamin Perrin, a University of British Columbia faculty member who is involved with human trafficking research and activism, wrote extensively about NPF in his 2010 book Invisible Chains,[6] calling North Preston "a place of Shakespearean irony" because of the town's conversion from a sanctuary for Black Loyalists (former American slaves) in the 1780s into the hub of a major gang that deals in modern-day slavery and drug and arms trafficking.[1] There are approximately ten gangs in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), of which NPF is the most prominent.
